Four and a half billion years ago, how did life emerge on Earth? Robert Hazen advances a startling idea--that the rocks on Earth were not only essential to jump-starting life, but then, as microbes flourished and took over the biosphere, life helped give birth to hundreds of minerals we rely upon today. NOVA reveals how the story of life on Earth is fundamentally interwoven with the epic, unfolding story of Earth itself.

Comments about PBS NOVA: Life's Rocky Start DVD:

I bought this DVD because I found the show so fascinating when broadcast. I actually recorded it and took notes on the information provided! I love NOVA because it brings science alive for someone not scientifically trained. Thanks, PBS!

Comments about PBS NOVA: Life's Rocky Start DVD:

This is, hands-down, my favorite NOVA program. (And I've watched many.) I rate it so highly for three reasons. First, the presentation itself is captivating and beautifully executed. Second, the pace moves like an action film - never a dull moment. Last, but not least, it presents a truly original concept that, once assimilated, changes how you view evolution forever. No small matter for me - I'm a science and engineering type - so very familiar with evolutionary theory.
