In 180 DAYS: HARTSVILLE, viewers will experience a year in the life of one Southern town's efforts to address the urgent demand for reform in American public schools, and watch what happens when the systems that can either fuel or diffuse that reform - bureaucracy, economic opportunity, and fixed mindsets - interact and intersect.

Comments about PBS 180 Days: Hartsville DVD:

28 July 2015

This program is an eye opener for those individuals who never experienced racial discrimination in the public education sector. The use of the term 'high bar' as a metaphor to demonstrate the disparate differences and consequences of attending sub par schools compared to superior schools receiving substantial financial resources is aptly appropriate. "Pulling yourself up by your own bootstraps" in this context is geared to fail. The battle of the public schools today is presented in a more subtle, covert fashion compared to 1954's Brown v Board of Education issues.
