Comments about PBS American Masters: August Wilson: The Ground on Which I Stand DVD:

This DVD is an excellent introduction or "I've-already-seen-his-plays" hour to be spent getting to know August Wilson as a person and his drive to portray African American life in various decades.

Comments about PBS American Masters: August Wilson: The Ground on Which I Stand DVD:

The man who I consider my best friend introduced me to August Wilson after I moved to the L.A. area. Since there is excellent theater in L.A., I have been able to see 3 of his plays and watch the prodcast of this DVD. The DVD is a gift for June, his 92 year old mother who is a fan of August Wilson. I have watched the film twice, and each viewing increased my amazment with this singular Black American master.

A mandatory look at American Society

Comments about PBS American Masters: August Wilson: The Ground on Which I Stand DVD:

August Wilson is the most important playwriter of the Twentieth Century. He has given African Americans a ground on which to stand and a place to start in reconstructing their devastating history in the United States. He is equally important to all people, white, black, asian whatever to explore in poetic expression the kind of society we as American people have created and live in and a deep look into our spiritual depths. His work is deeply spiritual, poetic, practical, everything you can think of. August Wilson is a creative genius who has given so much more than we can ever imagine. The DVD gives a very good overview of his life and work.
