The 1960s was the decade America transformed from a country of conformity to a land of political, cultural, and social liberation. The events of that tumultuous ten-year period reshaped America to such an extent that it still remains an epoch of fascination today and every step of the way, television helped frame and enable that change.

FANTASTIC DOCUMENT

By Lefty_Richie

from Montreal, Canada

Comments about PBS The Sixties DVD:

I love this 10 part series which has an educational side for the people who were either just children in the sixties or were not even born. How society has changed to what it is today is largely due to what happened back then.

The Sixties

By Bill Bohon

from Burleson, TX

Comments about PBS The Sixties DVD:

The Sixties bring back memories that influenced my life. I was a child living in Fla. During the missile crisis in Cuba, bomb shelters, and what to do in case of an attack. I was 10 when president Kennedy was assassinated. As a teenager I fondly remember the television shows like the Smothers brothers and laugh in. Drugs and music! And of course Viet Nam, as I enlisted in the army, 1970. I cannot recomened enough to anyone who would like to know about racism and inequality that existed back then, and what it took to change a culture. The Sixties DVD, is GREAT!!!

Comments about PBS The Sixties DVD:

Being born in 1948, the sixties were one of the most significant time periods in shaping the world as we know it today. This is a must have in anybody's library to show the grand kids how it was.

Who write History?

By Dr. Robinson

from Somerville MA

Comments about PBS The Sixties DVD:

Of course many might find this work fascinating. But when you consider how superficial it really is you may see it rather biased and one sided. Most people may want to hear about this perspective and there's nothing wrong with that but others could come to expect more that seems to remain buried in political correctness.
The fact that some of you would feel they need more depth because of what we're now reading on the internet that has come to light.
As you consider this could be interesting to some, but if you're a deeper thinker then that one phrase from the 60's that was without a doubt the greatest thing one could put voice to, wouldn't you agree "Question Authority" to be just as valid today as it was during a decade that witnessed tens of thousands of young men drafted into a war, could have?
Perhaps as you look at the flag wavers of today you might feel ashamed if you were one who waved signs during that era to end the war. But even myself who did serve and lost too many friends and fellow soldiers still say it was a waste.
But to hide our heads in the sand in the name of patriotism and blind obedience to authority is still not something I'm willing to do.
I'll fight for freedom but not for oil and not for the economy and not for dollars.

Excellent Overview of a Pivotal Decade

Comments about PBS The Sixties DVD:

This series educated me about historical and sociological aspects of the sixties that it would have been impossible for me to master even if I had been an adult during that time. While I found some of the episodes less interesting than others, I would recommend this highly.
