I watched this on the History channel a few years back and loved it. I was so interested in the subject that when I found it on PBS, I needed to buy it to watch again. I have since bought more videos on the subject of British & European history to compliment the series and add more detail. Really good viewing....

I purchased this program as a gift for my father. He loves English history - the older the better! And I had previously seen this program (among others of Simon's) on PBS, and thought my father would enjoy this. He did - thoroughly! It's the type of program he will want to watch over and over again, I'm sure! I recently saw Simon do an interview with Charlie Rose, and you know, he's so knowledgeable about a lot of things. He's particularly good at explaining history, and I think his favorite area of history is English history. It was a pleasure to listen to him again. This program lives up to PBS's usual high standards. I knew my father would not be disappointed. It was well worth the investment. And as usual, dealing with the folks at OPB was nothing but a pleasure. Thanks again!

Simon Schama is to British history what David Attenborough is to natural history. His presentation is articulate and informative as well as entertaining. I highly recommend this series to anyone who loves history.

If you want a true and clear presentation of a people and their history, then this DVD set will not disappoint. The insight and fundamental facts of Mr Schama's presentation make for a fascinating picture of how the British people came to be the nation they are today. Good piece of work and history, if you love the subject.
