Comments about PBS Paris - The Luminous Years DVD:
This DVD offers an interesting and, indeed, "luminous" account of the community of artists, much more often than not from other countries (Spain, Russia, etc.), active in Paris in the first thirty years of the Twentieth Century. It is accessible to youngsters as well as to adults.
When I later saw Midnight in Paris, I wondered if Woody Allen hadn't been inspired by this splendid DVD.
I've offered "Paris, The Luminous Years" to several friends who, without exception, have expressed enthusiasm.
All in all, a wonderful experience.
Comments about PBS Paris - The Luminous Years DVD:
I was watching Woody Allen`s Midnight in Paris and was thinking how little I knew about Paris and the artists that lived and live in City of Lights.
The documentary filled many gaps I had in an easy and approachable way.
Comments about PBS Paris - The Luminous Years DVD:
Excellent overview of "the shock of the new" that was Parisian modernism. A great enhancement when used as preparation for a visit to Paris--and an excellent introduction to what made modernism so important as a movement.
Comments about PBS Paris - The Luminous Years DVD:

Comments about PBS Paris - The Luminous Years DVD:
I was amazed at how little I knew about this era of art, literature, dance, music, etc. This documentary beautifully and thoroughly portrays this era where artists in all venues were blasting through traditional ideas and modes and showing us brilliance, beauty, media, and style in all new ways -- literally blowing minds.
