The New Recruits is a documentary about a battalion of business students armed with a plan to end global poverty: charge poor people for goods and services. The recruits are selected from thousands of applicants to take part in the prestigious Acumen Fund Fellows Program. They will apprentice with "social enterprises" around the world intended to help poor people by treating them as customers rather than recipients of charity.

Comments about PBS The New Recruits DVD:

Well, I can't quite agree with the first review as money was not exactly the focus of the movie. The point was that business opportunities exist everywhere but can only be realized when taking into consideration cultural differences. The movie will outline a number of cultural issues where 'we' as Western nations think to possess all the skills, tools, and wisdom it takes to be successful. I think the film offers a great perspective of the challenges presented by the culture but also the arrogance with which Western cultures approach consumers in developing economies.
