Comments about PBS George Gershwin: Porgy and Bess (San Francisco Opera, 2009) DVD:

The voices, the staging, the choreography, the lighting--there are not enough superlatives to describe this marvelous production. Eric Owens makes it clear that this is PORGY and Bess; but rest assured that Laquita Mitchell will enchant and seduce you as Bess. I was most impressed by the authenticity of the production's depiction of Catfish Row in the 1950s. The characterizations and dance fully capture the nuance of the African American idiom. It will haunt and amuse at the same time. Enjoy.

Comments about PBS George Gershwin: Porgy and Bess (San Francisco Opera, 2009) DVD:

After watching it on television I felt that it was the best performance of Porgy and Best I've ever seen. I enjoyed it so much. George Gershwin music and the voices of the performer were great. I can't say enough about it. Great opera and I loved it. I brought 2, one for me and one for a gift.
