My big brother spoted this DVD in the Jet's Editors' picks of the week. He sent me a copy and I just ordered two copies for us to enjoy and share with our grandchildren....Read complete review
My big brother spoted this DVD in the Jet's Editors' picks of the week. He sent me a copy and I just ordered two copies for us to enjoy and share with our grandchildren.
Our mother passed some 17 years ago, but we remember her talking about attending Bordentown. She was the young girl on the end of the first line of the graduation picture of the Class of 1940 (Charlotte German).
We never realized the impact this school had on African-American history. Nor did we realize what extraordinary effort our grandmother went to to ensure our mother received such a fine educational opportunity for her daughter to attend this school. However, we do now!
We both remember our mother talking about her fond memories of going to Bordentown. In fact she continued to speak of her acdemic experiences until her death. It was a privilage to attend the school and she had such pride out traveling between NYC and Baltimore to visit family when school was out.
Unfortuntely we missed the airing on PBS, so we'll be sure her grandchildren and great grandchildren learn about another little-known story of the last all black publicly funded, co-ed bording school.
This is a wonderful way to remember her and teach our grandchildren about her history. We truly appreciate the efforts it took to produce and sharing this piece of history with America. And by the rating others do too. Good Job PBS & JET!!

Loved the discipline, the pride and the ability to get the job done of educating our young people no matter the color. Love it immensely- I never knew that such a school existed.

My only complaint is that the story was not longer. The sense of community pride is so compelling, I would love to have attended such an istitution.
