New information about Stalingrad which alters somewhat the conventional story. The DVD reinforces some of what I learned when I visited the battle field this past summer (2010). Some gruesome footage; the battle was gruesome.

De-bunks Stalin's "infallibility" relative to this battle: kudos, David Glantz! Needs some revision on important data such as the "razzle-dazzle" of "Papa" Hoth's 4. Panzerarmee that unhinged Stalingrad's outer southern defenses by that famous wheel of Hoth ca. 30 August 1942! Also, does not depict Paulus's mediocrity as field commander clearly enough. Finally, gives the erroneous impression that Heeresgruppe Sud was subdivided into Army Gps. "A" + "B" ab initio--not so! The aforesaid partitioning of Army Gp. South was an ex post facto change, as Col. Glantz knows. Opn. BLUE was to be a sequenced, 3-phase offensive: first, the drive to Stalingrad; second, the masking/quickie grab of Stalingrad and finally the sweep to the Caucasian oil fields. "Deadliest Battle" does not convey this. It should! Emend as per the aforesaid & you'll have a "bullet-proof" narrative of Stalingrad. One more detail: note the role of the KV-1 tank (which is misidentified as the T-34 in the footage shown)--an important distinction! I viewed this DVD 48 hours ago on OETA-TV, my local PBS television channel.
