This is the story of an assassin, James Earl Ray, his target, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and the seething, turbulent forces in American society that led these two men to their violent and tragic collision in Memphis in April 1968. The film will explore the wildly disparate, yet fatefully entwined stories of Ray and King to create a complex, engaging and thought-provoking portrait of America in the crisis-laden year of 1968.

Comments about PBS American Experience: Roads to Memphis DVD:

This was on PBS last night, MLK holiday. It was a very timely and interesting presentation, providing information that I had never seen or heard before. It also was riveting in the analysis of why J.E. Ray committed the murder and the parallels we see in current US assassinations in our schools and on our street corners. People on the 'fringe' want to be recognized as 'somebody', even if it is for a heinous crime. They want to be a 'celebrity'.
