In March 1936, the greatest flood in over 300 years roared down the Connecticut River. A hard winter followed by exceptionally early, warm Spring weather unleashed an armada of icebergs that destroyed everything in its path. A huge ice jam, the like so which has not been seen in the Connecticut River Valley since the last Ice Age, dammed the river. When the dam finally burst, the roar was heard for miles.

Comments about PBS The Great Flood of 1936 DVD:

Most New Englanders know about the '38 Hurricane but how many know about the '36 flood (or the '27 flood that affected nearly all of VT for that matter)? This gives good information regarding the causes and the effects of this disaster. This program includes film as well as still photos.
