It does not matter where the Buddha was born, what matter is his messages of this great teaching. And also I think Pbs/Author was right on saying that the Buddha was born in the 'Foot-hills of the Himalayas.' It did not mentioned Nepal or India. Morevoer, we are talking about the time 2600 years ago when there was 16 princely state, not like a modern day boundary. Even the name Nepal and India was not there at the time. Therefore, it is very right to say in 'The foothills of the Himalayas'.
The message was great for all. Everybody benefits from it. Wheather one is Christian, Buddhist, Muslim, Sikh or Non-Believer in anything.

The Buddha DVD is an excellent documentary by David Grubin and narrated by Richard Gere.Here I like to add one of Buddha's saying which could always help the mankind to go forward.Buddha said''that we must not believe in a thing said merely because it is said;nor traditions because they have been handed down from antiquity;nor rumours,as such;nor writings by sages,because sages wrote them;nor fancies that we may suspect to have been inspired in us by a Deva(that is,in presumed spiritual inspiration);nor from inferences drawn from some haphazard assumption we may have made;nor because of what an analogical necessity;nor on the mere authority of our teachers or masters.But we are to believe when writing,doctrine,or saying is corroborated by our own reason and consciousness.For this,Buddha said''I taught you not to believe merely because you have heard,but when you believed of your consciousnes,then to act accordingly and abundantly''

I thought the majority of it to be accurate and easy to follow. However, I think people (the authors) need to remember there is more than one sect of Buddhism, not just Tibetan. Seems a little bias.

I'd been floundering around with Asian religions in the one semester senior elective on World Religions that I've been teaching this spring and then had the great good fortune to find THE BUDDHA which gave my students and me both insights from believers and solid historical grounding. I'm looking forward to using it again next year.
