The Himalayan Kingdom of Mustang is one of the last sanctuaries of authentic Tibetan Buddhist culture. Long isolated by geography and politics, the people have struggled to survive, and the 15th century monasteries that are the center of their culture have come dangerously close to collapsing. MUSTANG tells the story of a Tibetan culture that has pulled back from the brink of extinction through the restoration of its sacred sites.

Comments about PBS Mustang: Journey of Transformation DVD:

Beautiful Vistas. The viewer learns about a culture that is almost forgotten. But more so, about sacred sites in the Himalayas that are being restored and hopefully saved from collapse. Interesting, Informative. Important!

Comments about PBS Mustang: Journey of Transformation DVD:

This video tells the story of Mustang, the province between Tibet and Nepal who was greatly affected by the invasion of the Chinese into Tibet cutting the people off from a sustainable trade with Tibet. Forgotten people, declining culture and crumbling monastaries which were brought back to life through the work of the American Himalayan Foundation and an art restorer from Italy, Luigi Fieni. Through just Luigi's passion he gathered people and groups to resurrect the great monastaries and their breathtaking temple paintings centuries old. Well worth the modest fee. An exceptional tale and production.
