With regard to the Latin Jazz and Salsa portions, this is a very interesting and complex documentary , thus, I understand how many important individuals and facts with regard to Latin music in NYC had to take a back seat. I think, however, not having a segment on the DVD focusing on Arsenio Rodriguez's contributions to Latin music in NYC and what eventually became known as "Mambo" then "Salsa" is absurd - to say the least. All you had to do was ask Pacheco, Harlow, or Colon how may of Arsenio's masterpieces have been re-arranged under the so-called genre "Salsa." I was surprised that the PBS website mentions Arsenio's contributions in its "Find out More" section for Latin Music USA, but the documentary fails to even show a photo of, in my opinion, the "Father" of so-called Salsa. Why? This oversight equates to a documentary on American Blues and Rock and Roll not mentioning Robert Johnson. Yeah... That bad folks...

Comments about PBS Latin Music U.S.A. DVD:
This is such an informative and entertaining series. I knew a little about Latin Music in the USA but this introduced me to so much more. With all the great music and musicians included in the film it was hard to not get up and dance while watching it.
Comments about PBS Latin Music U.S.A. DVD:
Particularly for the novice this DVD ia a wonderful introduction to the variety and tempos of music that crosses our southern border.
Comments about PBS Latin Music U.S.A. DVD:
I teach Spanish language and Latino culture. When I came across this DVD set, I personally loved it, but found it hard to sit through with my high school kids. The mambo section is too long, and the reference to a dancer's body (he used the "t" word) was unnecessary for the storyline.
Please come up with a condensed, edited version to show in the classroom. Four hours is too much for kids to sit through, but the history is great.
Comments about PBS Latin Music U.S.A. DVD:
This DVD is unique. It contains rare historical footage I've never seen anyplace else. We've all heard the music that came after these pioneers in latino music in the US, but I've never seen anything else that illustrates exactly how it developed. The interviews with those that are still alive today are priceless. And, I guarantee you won't be able to sit still after you hear the music--it will totally energize you!
Comments about PBS Latin Music U.S.A. DVD:
it's of great historical musical evolution
