I've read the various reviews and I find the comments about Morse's character qualities to be
surprisingly similar to what I have been seeing, and then some! I've bought 12 sets so far!
The characters' interactions, the cinematography,
writing and overall production are exquisite and exceptional in every episode. "Whodunnits" just
don't get any better than this! You MUST own these!

While I highly recommend the Inspector Morse series (It is so good that there is nothing with which to compare it), I received one set (out of four, to date) where two of the six DVDs in the package were damaged. My guess is that damage occured during DVD reproduction (probably bad blanks). I will return this particular damaged set (Absolute Conviction) and order another of the same set, along with the remaining two sets that I don't yet own. I'd prefer that ShopPBS simply exchange the two bad DVDs, but apparently one must return everything for credit and repurchase the entire set. Whatever... This is a wonderful collection. Each Episode is one DVD, and it is Feature length. Just watching the interactions between John Thaw and Kevin Whately is worth the price; the two were perfectly cast and worked so well together in this series. Unlike many detective shows (or movies) we get to see the character flaws, the imperfections, the human side of the characters portrayed, and that gives them Life. Some episodes are better than others, but even the least exciting are truly fascinating to watch. Highly Recommended, and memorable, I think watching Inspector Morse may help to develop insights that most people would otherwise never acquire. This is Good Stuff! I only wish I'd discovered it years ago.

We ordered the Absolute Conviction, Last Enemy, nad the Dead of Jericho and have enjoyed all three collections -- so much so we are going to order the remaining collections we don't have today.

While the Morse series is a bit dated, the writer's craft evident throughout each episode continues to impress twenty years later. The blend of frailty and honest intellect Morse embodies is absent in so many modern TV crime dramas. It should be required viewing for those whose education skipped the classics. And being set in Oxford is merely a bonus.
