The bets were huge and risky, billions of dollars on the housing market. Superbanks reaped billions of dollars, and gobbled up competitors. Then the bottom dropped out, massive losses on Wall Street nearly broke the banks and many are on the brink of failure. As the federal government contemplates what could become a massive nationalization of the industry, watch as FRONTLINE tells the inside story.

Comments about PBS FRONTLINE: Breaking the Bank DVD:

I use Frontline documentaries in my college class to help students who are not familiar with what caused our recent catastrophic recession. This helped them to get the background information needed to study this area.

Comments about PBS FRONTLINE: Breaking the Bank DVD:

And we all thought our money was safe! This is an eye-opener and must see for us all. We thought these "experts" knew what they were doing. Well, it turns out that they did not. And if they did, then it was nefarious indeed!

Comments about PBS FRONTLINE: Breaking the Bank DVD:

I watched this rebroadcast twice, and will watch it again. I learn more each time. Even someone like me, with little knowledge of banking and investing, I was able to understand it. The second viewing I began to wonder if President Obama had seen this coming, and was positioning things so he could secure the best control of the situation possible. It seemed like the government's moves were like a good chess player's, thought out many moves in advance.
