I thoroughly enjoyed Wallander and it's due to Kenneth Branaugh's performance. He is excellent as the crumbled, shaby detective suffering from emotional losses, but diligent in his pursuit of criminals and cracking his case. It's an excellent supporting cast as well and it's a pleasure and joy to see Branaugh in a mystery series like this one. I also like that he has taken a step away from the Shakespeare stuff, which don't get me wrong, he is excellent in that too. I understand that it is his "bread and butter" and where his interest lie, but nice to see the man is versatile. I loved Wallander so much, I plan to buy the DVD and add to my mystery collection. I am also rooting for Kenneth Branaugh winning an emmy for his performance in the series. Good job PBS.

To me these were very disappointing stories. The story has been chopped up and crammed together to tell in 90 minutes what should take three hours. By the end of the 90 minutes I am still left with many unanswered questions. Too little information is given as the story progresses - or jumops along over hurdles never explained. Very unsatisfying. All I was left with was many memories of Kenneth Branagh looking like a drawn, depressed, disheartened, disorderly drunk suffering a terrible hangover. No way to tell a nmystery -- I wonder if the author has seen them and if so, what he thought of them.

Comments about PBS Masterpiece Mystery: Wallander: Sidetracked, Firewall, One Step Behind DVD:
Not your usual detective. Not your usual setting. Wallander, portrayed by the acting skills of Kenneth Branagh,is human and believable, and the storyline well developed. Well worth watching.

Branagh is brilliant as Wallander. No missteps in this series.
Comments about PBS Masterpiece Mystery: Wallander: Sidetracked, Firewall, One Step Behind DVD:
Excellent acting, but extremely bleak commentary on life in small towns in Sweden.
Comments about PBS Masterpiece Mystery: Wallander: Sidetracked, Firewall, One Step Behind DVD:
I know a movie rendition is almost never as enjoyable as reading the printed word and using your own imagination to bring a story to life, but I was still very disappointed with the DVD.
The acting was good, but important facts were omitted that made the story hard to follow.
I was also looking forward to seeing the beautiful Swedish countryside, but the film was dark and and for all the beauty, it could have been filmed in someones' garage.
