THE NATIONAL PARKS is the story of an idea as uniquely American as the Declaration of Independence: that the most special places in the nation should be preserved for everyone. The series traces the birth of the national park idea in the mid-1800s and follows its evolution for nearly 150 years, chronicling the addition of new parks through the stories of the people who helped create them.

I had the pleasure of viewing this series on PBS and bought the DVD set for a friend who recently retired and is on her way to Explore the United States. She has watched ever episode and said she could watch it over and over again. This production is informative, entertaining and packed with interesting facts about our country and how the state parks were formed. Ken Burns excels again! What amazing photography and content! I highly recommend this series.

it wasn't what I thought it would be.

I thought it would be a color video of most of the National Parks. It was more of a history. I wanted to see the scenes of the parks.

I have had many conversations in the past with family and friends regarding vacations to International destinations, however this film has truly opened my eyes to now explore the history and beauty that Ken Burns has exposed right here in the back-yard. Happy 100th Birthday National Parks I'm committed to visiting you soon.
