THE NATIONAL PARKS is the story of an idea as uniquely American as the Declaration of Independence: that the most special places in the nation should be preserved for everyone. The series traces the birth of the national park idea in the mid-1800s and follows its evolution for nearly 150 years, chronicling the addition of new parks through the stories of the people who helped create them.

Support for Ken Burns; unlike GM

Comments about PBS Ken Burns: The National Parks: America's Best Idea DVD:

"Those who forget the past, are doomed to relive it." As good a reason as any to keep the beauty of North America out of the hands of the greedy and in control of the common citizen; without such, this country might look like a massive "tailing pond".

GM is bailed out by The U.S. Taxpayer then GM turns around and abandons Ken Burns; History will remember this...

Comments about PBS Ken Burns: The National Parks: America's Best Idea DVD:

I had the pleasure of viewing this series on PBS and bought the DVD set for a friend who recently retired and is on her way to Explore the United States. She has watched ever episode and said she could watch it over and over again. This production is informative, entertaining and packed with interesting facts about our country and how the state parks were formed. Ken Burns excels again! What amazing photography and content! I highly recommend this series.

Our greatest treasure

Comments about PBS Ken Burns: The National Parks: America's Best Idea DVD:

As usual, a Ken Burns masterpiece. The history of the National Parks is mind boggling - so much
is fought with the usual Republican opposition to anything beneficial for the lowly citizens of this country. Theodore Roosevelt, just like Franklin D., has done so much for the nation, and John Muir, although not a native of our country had dedicated his life towrds its preservation.
What heroes !!

Saw it on TV at home and then at sister's home and just couldn't get enough of it, so now I have it to watch and can now zero in on whatever section is desired at a particular time. It can help me plan trips.
