In 2004, journalist Dave Iverson received the same news that had been delivered to his father and older brother years earlier: He had Parkinson's disease. In My Father, My Brother and Me, Iverson sets off on a personal journey to explore the scientific, ethical, and political debate that surrounds Parkinson's. And he has intimate conversations with fellow Parkinson's sufferers like actor Michael J. Fox and writer Michael Kinsley.

Parkinson's Disease accurately portrayed

Comments about PBS FRONTLINE: My Father, My Brother and Me DVD:

The video is a good overview of the personal struggles of Parkinson's Disease sufferers who are in the early- to mid-stages of the disease. Produced in 2009 it lacks current results for Deep Brain Stimulation surgery. The public face of PD through Michael J. Fox and his foundation is presented well. It is frank about the fact that there is no known cure for PD (still the case in 2014), and that early promise from fetal tissue transplants was elusive in 2009 (still so in 2014). Stem cell research has been (still is) stymied by debate over human embryo status, but this still has the greatest promise. An update to this video would be welcome.

Comments about PBS FRONTLINE: My Father, My Brother and Me DVD:

Saw it on TV, thought it was well-done, so showed it to my high school biology students to wrap up our genetics unit. Students found it to be an interesting, informative and touching story filled with many topics we studied in class, such as heredity, pedigrees, gene therapy and environmental/lifestyle effects on genetics.

My Father, My Brother and Me

Comments about PBS FRONTLINE: My Father, My Brother and Me DVD:

Dear PBS, Please show this program again, so I can alert members of my Parkinson Education Program of Greater Cleveland to watch it. It is a very good overview of what has tried to be done for this disease. My husband has been living with PD for 20 years, and this show explains PD to most people who need to learn much more about it. I am very much an advocate for PD and go to Washington DC every year to the Parkinson Action Network Public Policy Forum and then to congress. Thanks, Marilyn M. Brandt

Comments about PBS FRONTLINE: My Father, My Brother and Me DVD:

I have had parkinson disease for 8 years and have read many books on the subject and have attended many lectures, and watched films and such. Mr Iverson has produced an excellent dvd, the best I have seen. I hope everyone will have the opportunity to watch this film.
