With a finance degree and years working at investment banks, I couldn't stop watching knowing I've been living all around it for years. You have to understand how the tsunami, a true economic meltdown, started.

While many believe government is the solution, you'll learn all kinds of reasons why there's a whole truckload of blame for both the private and public sectors. Capitalism breeds the greed, and unchecked, both the government officials and corporate CEO's leave a wake of economic destruction that'll last for decades.

Remember "Who moved my Cheese?" It's now more like "Who stole my 401K?" or "Who sucked 40% of the value from my home?"

Plain and simple....get everyone you know to watch this show, and continue the dialogue.

Niall Ferguson did an amazing job, but as is to be expected of a PBS program, veered hard left in his criticisms of President Bush as somehow being the driving reason behind the Enron scandal. Concerning the mortgage and credit markets meltdown, mention was made of deregulation - again, obliquely pointing a finger of blame at Bush - but no mention of liberal Senators Barney Frank and Chris Dodd, the reigning heads of the regulatory agency responsible for overseeing Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae. By demanding that mortgage lenders give home loans to those unable to pay for them, i.e. deregulation, this started the chain of events which led to our current economic situation. Incidentally, two of Obama's largest campaign contributors were Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. I'll be amazed if this critique gets posted. Thank you.

A truly brilliant and masterful piece of work. The Ascent of Money should be mandatory viewing for everyone human being able to comprehend it's content. After viewing this work I came away with a true understanding of what economic factors brought the current financial crisis upon our country and indeed the world economy as well.
