Compass

The compass opened the world to exploration and discovery. Invented in China thousands of years ago, it was primarily used by feng-shui priests, hired to advise on how and where to build. Today the compass still is a basic tool, a magnetized needle rotating on a vertical pin, pointing at the Earth's magnetic North. 16th century sailors accustomed to following coastlines, could suddenly cross oceans.

Unique Gift

By Ski&Sail

from Missoula,MT

Comments about PBS WWII Compass:

Truly remarkable rendition of WWII Compass. Fully workable and accurate. Makes a wonderful keepsake. I have purchased 6 in the past year, kept one for myself and given the others away as gifts. The recipients are not only astonished but appreciate the weight and look of the compass as well. Of course, having their names engraved on the back (an extra not included by PBS) is an added touch. Great gift!

WWII Compass

Comments about PBS WWII Compass:

I was encouraged by a few of the more thoughtful reviews. This is a very well made brass compass, no it doesn't come with instructions, but I thought everyone knew how to use a compass (hint, the needle points to the north). I'm very pleased with my purchase of same, yes, it's a keeper!

A REAL KEEPER

By Red Molly

from Evergreen, CO

Comments about PBS WWII Compass:

I love gadgets and turn of the 20th century bronze items, especially ones that move. This is a working compass that I actually clipped onto my Steampunk Halloween costume then liked it so much, I placed it on a side table beside a bronze lamp in our living room for display. Makes me feel like it was a momento from when I was an English adventuress!

Disappointed

By Rita

Comments about PBS WWII Compass:

I have always thought this compass would be a cool thing to have and finally ordered it. I was very disappointed in the quality of the compass and in fact could not get it to work properly. Perhaps I just got a bad egg, but I don't feel it is worth the asking price. Returned it.

Comments about PBS WWII Compass:

I purchased this compass for a ten year old. It came with no instructions and I found it very difficult to use. I'm returning it today.
