Joe Hutto's remarkable ability to interact with wild creatures was previously portrayed in the award-winning NATURE film, My Life as a Turkey. His new wild family is made up of mule deer living high in the mountains near his home in Wyoming, and the extraordinary story of how he became one of them pushes once again at the boundaries of how we perceive wild animals.

Another fascinating look at a species

Comments about PBS NATURE: Touching the Wild: Living with the Mule Deer of Deadman Gulch DVD:

As always, Joe Hutto's insights on the species with whom he interacts are enlightening and fascinating. However, wish Joe had clarified the important dynamic of Apex Predators in an ecosystem. The segment about the predation of the Mule Deer by Wolves, Cougar, etc. was a bit one-sided and may lead to further erosion of the quite tenuous acceptance of the of Apex Predators to their natural habitats.

Comments about PBS NATURE: Touching the Wild: Living with the Mule Deer of Deadman Gulch DVD:

Joe Hutto is able to bridge the divide between scientific observation and heartfelt interaction without the sentimentality of wishful anthropomorphization. I gifted this to my young niece & nephew to broaden their understanding of the wildlife that surrounds them.

Comments about PBS NATURE: Touching the Wild: Living with the Mule Deer of Deadman Gulch DVD:

In the eyes of many people, deer specie isn't anything "special", except for hunters. This documentary reveals Joe Hutto's sense of understanding and love as he expresses his perspective, emotions and respect for the mule deer herd. A great documentary for family to watch, especially for those who care enough about the future of our world and its animals whom we really should love and care for before it is too late.
