In the mid 80s I heard Atwater speak at a conference on Reagan's 'Star Wars'. I was sitting next to Bob Novak, and after Atwater finished, I asked Novak, "Does he really believe what he said?" Novak answered, "He believes whoever is paying him." Novak then spritzed Binaca in is mouth and ran off to greet Atwater as if he were his best friend.
Look at all the "good" people who had Atwater do their dirty work. Do they think they are not guilty too?

This DVD had was not presented in a good fashion. There were many different segment you had to click on in order to view the entire movie. It only showed some segments that really didn't tell the whole story. I watched this movie previously in an ethics class at school and the movie played without any segment interruptions so I was able to understand the film. This was a terrible b-day gift for my boyfriend. I felt ashame to give this film as a gift.

Comments about PBS Frontline: Season 27 Boogie Man: The Lee Atwater Story DVD:
I will be taking a closer look at every polical ad I ever see again. Thank you to whoever chose to make this film.
Comments about PBS Frontline: Season 27 Boogie Man: The Lee Atwater Story DVD:
Yes, that is it entirely. Comment after comment telling those of us who admired the man, how rotten he was, how death could not come soon enough for this parasite upon the theatre of political exposition. If you want to feel bad about purchasing this DVD - - and Lord knows I do - - buy it and then watch it. Perhaps a joyful documentary shall be made of Lee Atwater's life and passion; but this ain't it.

Comments about PBS Frontline: Season 27 Boogie Man: The Lee Atwater Story DVD:
Atwater was a Southern gothic train wreck of a character and this is a fascinating documentary. Opens wide the kitchen doors and lets you see how the political sausage is made. A must-see if you care at all about politics. (And a really [*] sound track!)
Comments about PBS Frontline: Season 27 Boogie Man: The Lee Atwater Story DVD:
The man died in 1991, did it take 17 years to actually distill the essence of Lee Atwater's "campaign method"? The timing (near the end of the Bush Administration) is somewhat suspect. A lot of good could have been done if this concise documentary had come out 10 years earlier, which still would have allowed an ample seven years of analysis and study of his M.O.
