The story of the Medal of Honor, the highest U.S. award for valor in combat, is told through personal accounts of bravery and daring. The medal is presented to individuals for service above and beyond the call of duty. Most have been awarded posthumously, yet in this film 13 living recipients tell their stories. This documentary transports audiences to the battlegrounds of Little Round Top, World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam and Iraq.

It truly is a Medal of Honor

Comments about PBS Medal of Honor DVD:

This DVD gives a fascinating history from the inception of the Medal of Honor and first recipients through modern day. The testimonies that are given by surviving recipients from WWII and later give real meaning and reverence to the Medal's designation and purpose. The humility expressed by these people who did heroic acts in the face of overwhelming odds is a tribute to their character and self sacrifice. I am so happy that this DVD captures these unforgettable moments in history and pays tribute to these brave people.

Colorful testimonies and riveting recounting of some rather amazing heroism. Intense at times but not overly so.

What its all about

Comments about PBS Medal of Honor DVD:

Every single student in American public schools should be encouraged to watch this documentary. I have never in my life, been so touched by the stories of these real men and women. The idea that their own country and their comrades transcended the value of their own life is something that I can not begin to comprehend but can only admire and envy from a far. This film must be shown to all of the self hating American's out there so they can recognize that this life we live today, is 100% a direct result of the men and women that are portrayed here.

They 'get it', we should only be so lucky to one day understand on some level, what these great Americans understood without even having to think twice about it - that is what its all about.

Must Have DVD

Comments about PBS Medal of Honor DVD:

I was a CO in the Vietnam era. I was too young and idealistic and mad about Vietnam to know why we sometimes must fight. Over the years, I came to see war as sometimes a necessary horrible affair. At no time did I not respect soldiers or deny bravery in combat. But now I understand something more - the roots of incredible, selfless feats in war. Pulling no punches, giving no gloss, letting the events and those still living speak for themselves, this program shows how bravery comes from all the varied roots one can imagine within the complex human makeup: rage, fear, unthinking motoring, camaraderie, duty. Nor are the politics left out, how ample were the awards for a time, then how scarce, and how and why one gave the medal back. And how one tough woman got the medal only to have it rescinded and given back and how others endured torture but talk about it without a scrap of pride or ego ... just buy this thing, watch it, sleep on it, digest the best of what we humans and, yes, we Americans can be. A rich, deep, mind bender leaving me in tears.

Moving!

Comments about PBS Medal of Honor DVD:

As a Vietnam veteran who served as a combat medic, as a volunteer interpreter for the National Metal of Honor Museum, as a citizen of this United States, I would like a respectfully say "Thank you for this production".

After viewing this DVD, I noticed one commonality of all of the Metal of Honor recipients who were interviewed and that is "humility". One man said "Any regular Joe would have done the same thing". Another man said "I was just mad". Yes, situational opportunity plays a big role in receiving the Metal of Honor, but so does good training, good leadership, camaraderie and an honorable character. A character that starts at home when these men were children. Todays' children should have such good upbringing.

These Metal of Honor recipients are all aged. Soon there will be no living Metal of Honor recipients. This production preserves the actions of some of the best men in this country. I am thankful that generations of our children will now have the opportunity to witness the men who helped forge the freedom that this country enjoys. I just pray that all of the viewers of this production will recognize, learn and adapt the honor and integrity that is portrayed in these men. Thank you for preserving this important part of our nations history.

Please show this DVD to your children. Men like these should be their heros.
