This little-known World War II battle with Japanese forces on the Alaskan island of Attu includes the accounts of two surviving soldiers. The film tells of the tragic operation that saw ill-prepared American troops take on massive casualties. Red White Black & Blue is the story of every solider who faces an enemy he does not understand, the complicated mindset of a nation at war and what it really means to be an American hero.

Comments about PBS Independent Lens: Red White Black & Blue DVD:

I've watched this many times, the first being 0200 on PBS. I was suprised to see my Uncle Andy (Andrew Petrus). I knew he was stationed at Aleutian Islands during WWII but not much more. Bought this to always have as a reminder of how brave our men were there during WWII. Most people only know of our fighting in Europe & The Pacific. They don't know how close the United States came to being invaded.

Comments about PBS Independent Lens: Red White Black & Blue DVD:

I had no idea that there was a battle on US soil in WWII. This is a very interesting and informative film. A must have for any collector of WWII memorabilia.
