New York's Pennsylvania Station opened to the public in 1910. The station was a massive civil engineering project, covering nearly eight acres and requiring the construction of 16 miles of underground tunnels. No one could imagine that this architectural marvel built for the ages would be torn down a few decades later. Trace the brief life of New York's Penn Station, whose destruction spurred landmarks preservation.

EXCELLENT DOCUMENTARY

Comments about PBS American Experience: The Rise and Fall of Penn Station DVD:

This building has always fascinated me although all I've ever seen are pictures of it. This shows the construction and the finished product. It's an amazing thing to watch. Such a shame it's no longer around to be enjoyed by new generations.

Comments about PBS American Experience: The Rise and Fall of Penn Station DVD:

I was ten years old as I walked with my parents. I would love to go back again and to observe the surroundings. Sad to allow to be destroyed.

Comments about PBS American Experience: The Rise and Fall of Penn Station DVD:

A fascinating history of the rise ... and sadly ... the fall of Penn Station. Losing it has kept other landmarks from being demolished, but it's tragic that this outstandingly beautiful structure fell to the wrecking ball.

Comments about PBS American Experience: The Rise and Fall of Penn Station DVD:

A great buy. Quick delivery, good quality. Very happy that the station offers copies of programs of intrest. A great piece of history. To bad it was short lived & torn down.
