A Janie Hendrix Production

Comments about PBS Jimi Hendrix: Hear My Train A Comin' DVD:

This documentary is filmed within the tight restraints of Janie Hendrix and lacks critical influences and details that were a part of Jimi's life such as and above all his family and some close friends who could better acess the life and times of Jimi Hendrix. As most of you probaly know Jimi has a brother named Leon Hendrix who was not included in this documentary. The only Hendrix family blood to be included in the documentary is his cousin Bob Hendrix who is the only Hendrix family member said to be on the Experience Hendrix payroll. Jimi's father AL to whom was not always supportive of Jimi as the documentary suggest is also included with the insertion of old footage. The most disturbing part I found was the lack of respect for Jimi's mother Lucille and the dismissal of Lucille's side of the family to which Jimi would not have appreciated. It is a well known fact that Jimi loved his mother and talks about her in his music, Jimi spent time with his mothers side of the family and had spoken of how much he loved them. Jimi's mother is said in the documentary to be a drunk and it does not share or include that Jimi's father was a heavy drinker as well. It portrays AL his father to be a devoted single father, but AL left the children Jimi and Leon to fend for themselves very often. Documentaries should always include the big picture and the truth. If they were trying to paint a picture of the life Jimi Hendrix lived before becoming the worlds most influential rock god they failed terribly, our young lives and up bringings often speak volumes to the people we become and this documentary lacks in that department and is very one-sided. As vague as the documentary may be the unseen footage and photographs are enjoyable.

Comments about PBS Jimi Hendrix: Hear My Train A Comin' DVD:

How refreshing to see a real life portrayal of the unique and talented Jimi Hendrix!
This documentary's footage reminds us of what we all lost when this young and innovative artist died at such a young age.
A great addition to anyone's video library.

Product arrived cracked, twice

Comments about PBS Jimi Hendrix: Hear My Train A Comin' DVD:

The actual DVD is going to be part of a Christmas gift for my dad. My husband saw it on PBS and said the content was really great, so we have high hopes that my dad will really enjoy this.

I'm giving this item 3 stars because of the packing/shipping process. I received the first DVD in a tiny, barely bubbled, mailing envelope. The DVD had no tissue or bubble around it to protect it during shipment, and when I took it out it had multiple cracks all over the case.

I called Customer Service, and they issued me a pre-paid return label to mail it back, and sent me out a new one. The new one arrived packaged the same way as the first, and again, was cracked. This one wasn't cracked as badly, and at that point I didn't want to go through the hassle of calling again. If this were going to anyone outside my family, I would have sent it back for a refund at that point.

I would just caution people about ordering DVD's from PBS, because they will likely show up cracked.

Watched this show on your PBS station--knew my grandson, who plays guitar, would love this--purchased the show & it will be under the tree Christmas morning.
Loved the ease of ordering & after Christmas will be ordering again for myself.
