The Waiting Room uses extraordinary access to go behind the doors of an American public hospital struggling to care for a community of largely uninsured patients. Using a blend of cinema verité and characters' voiceover, the film offers a raw, intimate and even uplifting look at how patients, staff and caregivers each cope with disease, bureaucracy and hard choices.

Comments about PBS The Waiting Room DVD:

Exceptional is an understatement...
Thank you for the purity of this films ability to take one into the struggles, the misery... the hearts & the souls of the uninsured in America, as well as into the same for the persons trying to render the care necessary for them.
I would love this film to be viewed as "helpful" in facilitating compassion & resolve to the healthcare debate issues & to be allowed to air on CNN &/or on the congressional floor, especially at this divided time in government.
I do not know what heart & mind could not, at the very least, relate to one of these moments on some level at some time.

Comments about PBS The Waiting Room DVD:

Extremely well done documentary of a typical public hospital Emergency Room in today's urban setting. This is an honest and realistic view of the uninsured seeking basic and advanced medical care under extreme circumstances. The scenarios are not sensationalized nonetheless depict a gripping and unforgettable view of those seeking care and those providing the services within strict economic and social constraints. Although harried and overworked, the clerks, nurses and doctors provide thoughtful, kind and respectful care to all who present for care during a typical 24 hour period. Those served although under physical and emotional stress courageously have allowed the cameras to film their harrowing experiences. Should be a requirement for all who doubt the need for dignified and universal health care services in this country. An impressive and well done film!

Emergency....

Comments about PBS The Waiting Room DVD:

Exceptional!
thank you for filming, with such purity, the struggles of those uninsured in our healthcare system ... & so candidly revealing both the hearts & souls of the individuals as well as those trying their best to care for them.
Could possibly play a role of "helpful" on the congressional floor, at this divided time, in our country.
