In the spring of 1869, Civil War veteran John Wesley Powell, led an expedition down the Colorado River into the last uncharted territory in the United States. Ninety-nine days later, Powell emerged from the Grand Canyon after one of the most daring journeys in American history. This American Experience film is an account of the dramatic quest to explore one of the most unforgiving, and breathtakingly beautiful, places on earth.

Comments about PBS American Experience: Lost in the Grand Canyon DVD:

As a 4th grade teacher, I have used this DVD for my Utah history class. This is a fabulous video that makes the story of John Wesley Powell come to life. The students love the exciting journey down the Colorado River and into the Grand Canyon where Powell's men fight for survival.
