Highly dramatized and very accessible, and the captions were fine on my copies...altho a bit tricky to get "on" (it appears to be "off"). I've used with many ages and it is well - recieved by all. I only wish here were more of the Schama series.

Each episode is beautifully realized, engaging and insightful. It brings a new light to so many different works of art, but most importantly, provides an intimate history of each featured artist. I love it myself, as do my classes of high school students. I highly recommend this set.

Simon Schama does a wonderful job bringing vibrancy and sexiness to the lives of the artists he has chosen. The piece about Gian Lorenzo Bernini is stranger than fiction...Schama gives you all the pulpy details of Bernini's character along with his divine revelation in the form of Saint Theresa. Schama turns the story inside-out to reveal a gorgeous and critical truth but you'll have to watch to find out!
