I was so impressed when I saw this on PBS that I had to buy a copy to share with my brother-in-law, the photographer. It was so interesting to see Joel's family life and his outstanding photos. Truly a quality composition.

Have a passion for photography? Joel Sartore's video will enthrall but also intimidate you. His images are so beautiful, and his passion is evident in the incredible conditions he endures to get his shots. He says that he has a love/hate relationship with his calling. It is the love of it that drives him and, his wonderful images are his satisfaction. The strength of your drive to photograph will be tested!

As I watched the PBS presentation of "At Close Range" I was reminded of the main reason I love photography. The reason can't be stated nearly as well as it can be experienced watching how Joe Sartore views the world, his family, and his employer. I wish all the upstart young "digital" photographers could see this film, and witness the results that Sartore consistently obtained with his film camera and reversal films. But his equipment and methods are secondary to his work ethic, ambition, drive, and passion. You can't buy that in a camera kit. HIs images speak for themselves ... and he has raised the bar to a very high level.Jon Williams Ogden, Utah [@]
