Richard Thompson is a great guitarist and songwriter. This performance at Austin City Limits in 2001 showcases both of these talents. Moving from acoustic guitar in the early part of the show to electric near the end, one can easily see why he is always classed as one of top guitarists in various polls. The song selection is varied, from mournful ballads to uptempo rockers. I would have preferred more of the electric work, but perhaps his small backing band of acoustic bass and drums influenced the song selection. In any event, Thompson is always worth seeing and you won't go wrong in picking up this show.
