In this heartwarming and uplifting drama, childhood sweethearts Alan (Derek Jacobi) and Celia (Anne Reid), both widowed and in their 70s, fall for each other all over again when they are reunited on the internet after nearly 60 years. Their relationship is a celebratory tale of the power of love at any age. But this is also a story about family, and with family comes baggage.

I loved the first episode - as a senior myself married for 42 years, I can still remember that one special person from my past. However, the second episode was not so great in my opinion. While I know we all have disfunctional families today, I thought the sexual proclivities of her daughter, her son-in-law's mistress, and his daughter were a bit over the top and very disappointing. The acting is great as is the scenery but the storyline, well, it is rather trashy to my liking.

Last Tango in Halifax (seasons 1 & 2)

By MStone

Comments about PBS Last Tango in Halifax DVD:

This lively multigenerational family drama set in scenic Halifax delights the viewer in numerous ways. It is unique to this US viewer to see a credible and complex love story for 70-somethings. In addition each character in the series has his or her own serious/comic situations and a broad spectrum of social issues is treated with warmth, grace and compelling story-telling. I can't wait for season 3!

I watch this production again and again!

Comments about PBS Last Tango in Halifax DVD:

I continue to enjoy this production as I watch it repeatedly. I think Caroline's character is so interesting as it evolves w/all the issues that confront her. At times she is "magnificent" as Kate describes her. Sarah Lancashire is a consummate actress.
The Alan & Celia story is charming--conversations are fun, full of reality, romantic and engaging.
Love the writing of Sally Wainwright.

Comments about PBS Last Tango in Halifax DVD:

I love Halifax - both seasons. If you're like me , the same age as the 70ish love birds, Alan and Celia, you'll enjoy seeing them triumph over their difficulties on the way to the altar. They win over their children and their friends to acceptance of their romance while helping everyone around them to do a little better with their lives. This program is well-plotted, well-acted, and features a countryside and a geography I'd like to se for myself before it's too late.
