In this heartwarming and uplifting drama, childhood sweethearts Alan (Derek Jacobi) and Celia (Anne Reid), both widowed and in their 70s, fall for each other all over again when they are reunited on the internet after nearly 60 years. Their relationship is a celebratory tale of the power of love at any age. But this is also a story about family, and with family comes baggage.

I loved the first episode - as a senior myself married for 42 years, I can still remember that one special person from my past. However, the second episode was not so great in my opinion. While I know we all have disfunctional families today, I thought the sexual proclivities of her daughter, her son-in-law's mistress, and his daughter were a bit over the top and very disappointing. The acting is great as is the scenery but the storyline, well, it is rather trashy to my liking.

Comments about PBS Last Tango in Halifax DVD:

I love Halifax - both seasons. If you're like me , the same age as the 70ish love birds, Alan and Celia, you'll enjoy seeing them triumph over their difficulties on the way to the altar. They win over their children and their friends to acceptance of their romance while helping everyone around them to do a little better with their lives. This program is well-plotted, well-acted, and features a countryside and a geography I'd like to se for myself before it's too late.

You must see this series from start to finish, seasons 1 and 2. Can hardly wait for season 3. Something for everyone.

Comments about PBS Last Tango in Halifax DVD:

BEST SHOW AROUND. HOPE TO SEE MANY MORE SEASONS. Superb cast, story line. Love the fact that main actors are mature in age. Tired of the 20 somethings.

Comments about PBS Last Tango in Halifax DVD:

The older couple finding happiness is divine, especially in the midst of trying to blend their very different families. The writing is excellent, and the actors are wonderful. There are enough twists and turns with the various characters that make this an interesting series.

Comments about PBS Last Tango in Halifax DVD:

This is wonderfully written and acted: the casting is totally brilliant. Even the secondary characters: the "Giggalo", the "Girlfriend", are very well done and totally believable. I love the Northern English accents. And the sets are entertaining in themselves. All in all, the whole thing is charming and a good use of your entertainment time.
