Season 1 DVD

In this heartwarming and uplifting drama, childhood sweethearts Alan (Derek Jacobi) and Celia (Anne Reid), both widowed and in their 70s, fall for each other all over again when they are reunited on the internet after nearly 60 years. Their relationship is a celebratory tale of the power of love at any age. But this is also a story about family, and with family comes baggage.

I loved the first episode - as a senior myself married for 42 years, I can still remember that one special person from my past. However, the second episode was not so great in my opinion. While I know we all have disfunctional families today, I thought the sexual proclivities of her daughter, her son-in-law's mistress, and his daughter were a bit over the top and very disappointing. The acting is great as is the scenery but the storyline, well, it is rather trashy to my liking.

Comments about PBS Last Tango in Halifax Season 1 DVD:

I regret that I didn't start to watch this series earlier. When I finally saw it I was so impressed that I bought DVDs of all the seasons. What a beautifully written and acted story. Without realizing it, I find myself either crying or smiling. I must admit that some of the accents and vernacular are at times difficult to understand, but the basic search for love and a connection at all ages is not difficult;it is fundamental. This series is a real treasure.

I've always been a big Derek Jacobi fan ever since I first saw "I, Claudius" so he can do no wrong in my book!

Comments about PBS Last Tango in Halifax Season 1 DVD:

Delivery of these discs (season 1 and 2) was quicker than promised. Glad to have both seasons in hand, as the family complexities of season 3 sometimes need 'refreshed' info from earlier episodes, and renewed opportunities to admire the actors' work.
