The ukulele has gone from strength to strength in recent years, undergoing a massive resurgence. You can hear the uke all over the place, from trendster indie rock to top ten pop songs, from unshakeable TV ads to YouTube megahits. And this obsession shows no sign of abating - all over the country people are picking up a ukulele and starting to strum, at home, in classes and down at the pub.

Comments about PBS The Ukulele Handbook (Paperback):

The Ukulele Handbook exceeded my expectations. It has a great international history of the uke that I had never heard about before, in addition to the pages of music with songs and words, and a handy fold out diagram of the uke and what and where the notes are and how to place your fingers and the various ways to pluck the strings. There are detailed instructions and cool tricks by well known uke players. I particularly enjoyed reading about IZ Kamakawiwo'ole whose Hawaiian ukulele music is heard in movies and commercials. The book also reviews the various types of ukes, what to look for when buying them and suggestions for your own skill level.
