This is a concert version, and it's a great one. If you want to see a "full" production, you might try the Mitzi Gaynor version.

We were really dissapointed after viewing this DVD especialy because we are fans of Reba. This DVD is a rehearsal with actors/singers READING!!! their texts ! They are all talented but we were expecting to see that great musical with the performers showing some feelings instead of reading a text even for the songs ! we have since returned that DVD back to PBS.[...] we cannot recommend buying from PBS. Sorry...

love this DVD. As a side now, please show more masterpiece classics and mysteries on sunday at 9. Some of the Christie series could have been shown in 2008. There are too few masterpiece series

You will never see/hear a concert performance of "South Pacific" like this one: great heart, great comedy, and a Great Bass in name of Brian Stokes-Mitchell! Everybody shines in this, and Alec Baldwin as Luther Billis (with the coconut shells and grass skirt) is a hoot. Black tie and ball dress lets us focus on the principals' singing, and Richard's lyrics and Oscars' humanist dialogue/intent are so perfect for these and all times. Reba Mac is a delight as Nellie! You will have an absolutely 'Enchanted Evening'...!
