My main objection will matter only to people with hearing problems. The captions didn't work, though my TV is set up for captioning. This is an issue for a great many PBS DVDs, and keeps me from ordering more. Since so many boomers will suffer hearing loss, I strongly advise PBS to respond to this problem, paticularly as accents, rapid delivery and poor mixing levels make the dialogue hard to follow.

All that said, the performances were good but a bit overdone compared to Gerald Durrell's wry, understated writing style.

I read this book in 1972 while I was in Greece......heading home to BOS after 2.5 years in Peace Corps/FIJI. I had never heard of it before......since it was published in UK. It was a wonderful book that I could not put down. It made me Laugh Out Loud!!! Now I have the video......from PBS.......and it also makes me Laugh Out Loud!!! Great Movie......with Beautiful Scenery!!!!

We rented this on Netflix and were so taken with it, had to purchase it from PBS. If your children are over 7 and you don't mind very few mild sexual references, this is a lovely film. If your children love collecting animals or if you long for a respite from our busy modern world, this preWWII sojourn to Corfu puts a lot of our rigid, organized lives into perspective. Great scenery, lots of laughs.
