Nearly 750,000 elderly Americans are spending their later years in for-profit assisted living facilities. This loosely regulated, multibillion-dollar industry is dominated by one company: Emeritus Senior Living. In a year-long investigation, FRONTLINE and ProPublica raise questions about fatal lapses in care, understaffing, and a quest for profits.

Spot on. This was my experience.

Comments about PBS FRONTLINE: Life and Death in Assisted Living DVD:

True depiction of this industry's 100% occupancy goal with little regard for resident acuity or care needs or desire to provide adequate staff training. My work experience as an RN Administrator in 3 large companies in Oregon was the same. Marketing all smoke and mirrors.

life and death in an assisted living

Comments about PBS FRONTLINE: Life and Death in Assisted Living DVD:

I own several assisted living facilities in Illinois where the state does in fact licence the facilities and has regular check ups. We are a family owned operation and we hire all of the staff and regularly check on our staff and buildings. we have cameras in common areas which are for both parties protection. I can say that since our first facility opened we have had zero abuse and zero negligence. i understand that we can never put our guard down and take anything for granted but I think that overall in the assisted living industry these are truly rare occasions and if they are not then I suggest you look to moving to Illinois and giving me a call.

A one-sided story - shock-drama

Comments about PBS FRONTLINE: Life and Death in Assisted Living DVD:

The documentary is less than honest journalism. Dark music and dramatic narration accompany unfortunate stories that suggest wide-spread neglect.
A great opportunity to highlight the Assisted Living, and to search for real solutions to challenges of caring for the elderly in America was missed.
