eye opening

Comments about PBS Raising Cain DVD:

as a mother to be, it is eye opening to see how the public school system transforms these little guys from sensitive boys to cold men.
every guy shows emotions at one point but, i wonder what they would be like if these stereotypes went away and we just let boys be boys.

it is also really cool to see grafton on there <3

A Must if You Have Sons

By Mom of 2 Boys

Comments about PBS Raising Cain DVD:

As a woman, conceptually I got that boys think differently but this opened my eyes to see the perspective from a man's and the small boys' eyes. It really changed my mind about a lot of things I was allowing my kids to do or not do. I had purchased this as I started to see slight changes in my son when I'd tell him to stop expressing his stories with more death - just like the little boy in the movie who then felt sad and uninspired. As soon as I set new ground rules and allowed that creativity, my son went back to being his normal, creative, imaginative, loving self. The Japanese school was very interesting, but I doubt that would evere happen here in the U.S. but still great to see. I think all parents, teachers and caregivers should see this. It was very powerful and you can watch it many times, especially as the child grows.
Even though I mention women benefit from this, I think men do as well to see how important the love and leadership aspect from them is to boys of all ages.

Raising Cain

Comments about PBS Raising Cain DVD:

Although I enjoyed some of the points made in the program, the documentary seemed poorly organized and randomly compiled. Some of the videography was poorly done which distracts from the vital messages the program hopes to convey. I didn't feel like what the program had to offer was worth the asking price.

This film is a must for parents of sons.

Comments about PBS Raising Cain DVD:

The expressions on the faces of the little boys who described their understanding of being masculine as "not crying" says the most about the importance of this film. Parents who want their sons to be all that they can be need to watch this film and consider the issues and stereotypes that will have been the basis for their own parenting. Each of the little boys who "knew" that not crying was the description of being a man wore an expression of inadequacy as to their own masculinity, knowing they themselves had cried more than once very recently. How sad for small children to be so conflicted about whether they are okay. The film will help fathers and mothers understand their own feelings about/and maybe adjust their responses to how individual and special are their own sons.

Essential for all parents and teachers

By Dr. Al

from Honolulu, HI

Comments about PBS Raising Cain DVD:

As a child psychologist, I am pretty critical of much material geared toward a broad audience. This DVD is, however, exceptional. All parents of boys, especially single moms, should watch this DVD!

Teachers will also find much to use in this DVD.
