Comments about PBS My Shakespeare: Romeo and Juliet with Baz Luhrmann DVD:
You'll love "Looking for Richard," with Al Pacino (Richard III), Wynona Ryder (Lady Anne), and a bunch of other great actors (Kevin Spacey) as a theatre company rehearsing and discussing "Richard III."
Comments about PBS My Shakespeare: Romeo and Juliet with Baz Luhrmann DVD:
This is a great program, but the description is misleading: Baz Luhrmann can hardly be said to "oversee" the actors when he only interacts with them once, over the phone! Paterson Joseph, who actually puts in the hard work with the young cast, should really get some credit.
Anyway, the observations that the members of the cast make about their interaction with the play and about their lives really stand out, and made me think about how we relate to Shakespeare.
Comments about PBS My Shakespeare: Romeo and Juliet with Baz Luhrmann DVD:
I love this video. As a fan of Shakespeare, I enjoyed the inside look at this play and hearing the thoughts of such an amazing director as Baz Luhrmann regarding Romeo and Juliet. As a drama teacher, this video is useful to show the process of amateur actors taking on and conquering such difficult subject matter as Shakespeare. I am using this video in my English class as an introduction to Romeo and Juliet. My students are able to hear Shakespeare demystified by a director who has great passion for the play. They also get to watch the struggle of young people they can identify with learning this material for the first time. I want to give the love of Shakespeare to as many of my students as possible and this video is a great tool to assist me in that journey. Every English and Drama teacher should have this video in their collection.
