It was the greatest flood of the past two million years, and it posed a giant scientific riddle. With the help of stunningly realistic animation, NOVA takes viewers back to the Ice Age to reveal what happened when the dam broke, unleashing a titanic flood that swept herds of woolly mammoth and everything else into oblivion.

The story itself and the filming were both wonderful, and the film showed very well what happened.

But the "pow-pow-pow" visual "transitional effects" which were meant to be creative and dramatic were terribly distracting.

I would like to see it done again, allowing the eye to linger on the scenery, which itself is stunning, and the mind to linger on the drama that played out.

Comments about PBS NOVA: Mystery of the Megaflood DVD:

If you have ever wondered how this fantastic landscape could have come about then this DVD will explain and show the answer. We can only wish that it could have actually been recorded but this is the next best thing. We have driven through this area many times with our grandchildren and they greatly enjoyed seeing this great DVD.

Comments about PBS NOVA: Mystery of the Megaflood DVD:

I used to pass through this strange terrain over a four year period as I attended Wash State University in Eastern Washington State. This video provided me a very interesting geological reason for all the strange landscape features one sees as they travel through this region. My understanding from my Christian upbringing and education is that the ice dam that broke near Missoula was caused from the gigantic Flood of Noah in the Bible. Very interesting video.

Nova:See scenery unique in all the world

Comments about PBS NOVA: Mystery of the Megaflood DVD:

I glanced at the internet channels one day and came upon this. I was
somewhat familiar with the area as had moved to Spokane. WA only recently, and Spokane is directly East of the area they talk about in this piece.
After watching the video, I was really able to understand in detail how this area was formed. As I was watching, I kept thinking to myself, why has this material never been taught in the public schools and in our school textbooks? I remember learning about the Grand Canyon, and the Great Smokey mountains, for example, but Dry Falls ,Lake Missoula , Eastern Washington scablands, potholes, and erratics, nope! Perhaps, with this video, this unique, bizarre landscape can become a National Park.

Comments about PBS NOVA: Mystery of the Megaflood DVD:

Because I live in the Palouse region, I was thrilled with the NOVA production when it aired a couple years ago, and wanted a copy to share with those who new nothing or little about this uniquely formed topography. It was never listed in the PBS catalog but then I found it listed online. This is a must see for anyone who cares about nature. The story will keep you to the last minute.

Comments about PBS NOVA: Mystery of the Megaflood DVD:

Fascinating history and overview of this cataclysmic event. Good cinematography shows highlights of the area. I plan to visit next month (Jul 2013) and this DVD gave a good overview at a reasonable cost. Am buying another copy for my niece's 19th birthday - I hope she's as interested as I was.
