Great to see how his attitude and beliefs and approach draw the kids in and help them find motivation and discipline and change their lives. Outstanding teaching and commitment.
Comments about PBS P.O.V.: The Hobart Shakespeareans DVD:
This movie is eye opening. Even in a poorly funded area, this teacher takes time out of his schedule to open the eyes of children to works like Shakespeare.
Comments about PBS P.O.V.: The Hobart Shakespeareans DVD:
As a former college English instructor, I was moved to tears by this stunning documentary, which follows a 5th grade teacher in Southern California, working with disadvantaged students. His attitude, his teaching techniques, and the success of his efforts are inspiring and astonishing. Watching these mostly Hispanic and Asian youngsters (all of them from violent, drug-crippled neighborhoods) come to life, blooming like beautiful flowers, should be an inspiration to everyone who loves kids and is concerned about the state of education in the US. To top it all off, the final class project, a performance of Hamlet, is amazing. These child actors say their lines with incredible understanding. Great teachers can work wonders, and this teacher is undeniably great.
Watch this documentary, and lift your heart, your hopes, and your spirit.
