One can hardly believe how set aside Eleanor Roosevelt was from childhood on in the losing of her parents, being virtually orphaned, saved by an excellent British school for girls, and dominated in her marriage by her mother-in-law and then her husband's infidelities! She was resilient, brilliant, and formidable in rallying support for the less fortunate citizens. She had true empathy.
