Comments about PBS The Appalachians DVD:
I was privileged to catch this on KET Kentucky Television recently and couldn't wait to buy the DVD. What a wonderful documentary of the culture and hardships the mountain people of the Appalachian Mountains and surrounding area have endured.
Comments about PBS The Appalachians DVD:
Tedddy Rooselvelt had a problem with "hyphenated" Americans, but this DVD brings out the toughness, pride, desire and strength to override all fires and floods thrown at us, the struggle of hard men and women with kindly souls and gentle hearts that certainly makes us a unique breed of people. This is not what a youngster will learn in middle school, yet should be required watching for all, as a humble reminder of the stock and breed from which we came. From the strong buttresses of the eastern mountains to the hills and valleys and streams emptying into the Ohio River in the western region, it's that very special portion of God's green earth that tells us all - eastern Buckeyes, Kaintuckians, western Virginians, Pennsylvanians, a few New Yorkers, Volunteer Staters, 'Baman's, and those others who have left but never forget nor lose their love for their old mountain homes. This movie is simply put, a delightful treasure trove, y'all! Buy two or more; one for you and your kin, and at least one for a friend or a few.

Comments about PBS The Appalachians DVD:
I originally saw this when it first aired on PBS and then saw the encore presentation exactly one year later. It's a fascinating and intriguing documentary that puts a whole new light on "hillbillies" and how they came to be. The history, the stories, and especially the music and religious beliefs that are held so dearly by these mountain folk is on-point. My father came from a family of 12 in the Appalachia Mountains of Danese, West Virginia so I was already familiar with the "Appalachian way of life". We have relatives (two aunts, one uncle, and cousins) who continue to make a farmer's living in Danese. We visit in the Spring, Summer and Autumn months and thoroughly love driving through those majestic mountains! This is a good learning tool about mountain folk, their way of life in the Appalachia Mountains, and a great DVD to add to your collection.
