It happened more or less by accident; the people who made it happen were amateurs; and for the most part they still are. From his own Silicon Valley garage, author Bob Cringely puts PC bigshots and nerds on the spot, and tells their incredible true stories. Like the industry itself, the series is informative, funny and brash.

Comments about PBS Robert Cringely: Triumph of the Nerds: How the Personal Computer Changed the World DVD:

A little dated now, as compared to when first shot, but now it's history. Lots of great anecdotes, valuable insight into some of the personalities that shaped the industry and an entertaining history lesson. I have used parts of this to teach a course on history of the internet. Students found it an engaging way to learn.

Comments about PBS Robert Cringely: Triumph of the Nerds: How the Personal Computer Changed the World DVD:

I love the industry. Always have since the beginning. This DVD is so great. It has no equal. I believe that I have listened to it in my car DVD player over and over again for 3 years practically everyday to and from work. I never get tired of it. I know it by heart. If you love computers, you will love this. From Edward Chin, the young nerd to Steve Jobs and Bill Gates...everyone is here. All of the main points of the industry and how it started. I can't say enough about this DVD. Hey Bob....it's been 13 years, you said you would be back in 10 years with a follow up DVD. Where is it?

Computer Education

Comments about PBS Robert Cringely: Triumph of the Nerds: How the Personal Computer Changed the World DVD:

I recently purchased this video for my beginning computer class. Since it is in three sections, I show one section per week. It not only covers all the history of the computer, items that I would not available in this day and age to show to my students, but presents the information in an easy to learn, and very informative manner. The most novice of my students "walks away" with a better understanding of the computer and the people who all made powerful contributions. It's the best money I have every spent for my computer basics class. I use it every semester!!
