Of all continents on Earth, none preserves a more spectacular story of its origins than Australia. With help from high-energy host and geologist Richard Smith, we meet titanic dinosaurs and giant kangaroos, sea monsters and prehistoric crustaceans, disappearing mountains and deadly asteroids. Epic in scope, intimate in nature, this is the untold story of the Land Down Under, the one island continent that has got it all.

Really just awful

By RockDoc

Comments about PBS NOVA: Australia's First 4 Billion Years DVD:

I tried really hard to like this show but it is terrible. I'm a geologist and teacher and always on the lookout for a useful earth science documentary. This video jumps from scene to scene, one can barely see what they are discussing, many shots (Permian extinction layer) are shown but not discussed, etc., etc. The editing is headache-inducing and the script is all flash and no substance. The script also is very "infomercial" -like in that it promises great things to come, but you never get there. Awful. A complete waste of money and time.

Geology Rocks!

Comments about PBS NOVA: Australia's First 4 Billion Years DVD:

What a great story - and a great ride. Making geology - a bunch of rocks & fossils - watchable can't be all that easy, but this series pulls it off. Great writing, pictures and really imaginative presentation.

First rate content

Comments about PBS NOVA: Australia's First 4 Billion Years DVD:

It is an astonishing program, full of first rate scientific information, and superb photography. Just wished for less dizzying and confusing image bites. I give it five stars for content, but the presentation includes too many useless image bites.

Comments about PBS NOVA: Australia's First 4 Billion Years DVD:

I thought it spent too much time on the "pretend" journey back in time. I couldn't connect with it.
