I love this series. Well done! I was impressed with the accuracy of this biographical story. Harry Gordon Selfridge was larger than life. He took chances and believed in himself. When he died 8 May 1947 he was nearly a pauper but he sure had a good run! His wife "Rose" Rosalie Amelia Buckingham Selfridge tragically died 22 May 1918 of influenza. Their daughters Violette and Rosalie both married aviators. Violette was also an aviator. She and her husband flew around the world in a Gypsy Moth in 1928 and published a book about it in 1930.
Once again PBS has brought us a stellar preformance.

It might be that it was a bit unfair to this production to air it after Downton Abbey's season end, and on the heels of Call the Midwife. (Two EXTRAORDINARILY well executed shows in every aspect.) The costumes and sets on this are amazing, but compared to the delicate balance of the other two shows, who manage to interweave "delicate" social issues in a flawless and compassionate manner---Mr Selfridge seems coarse. This show just unsettled my sensibilities. Especially on the heels of Downton, and Midwife. For me, Mister Selfridge seemed like an episode of a soap opera, in period costume, with acting not as well done. Agree with the other comment about the accessories manager. Nothing about her character to like. And yet....it's like watching a train wreck, hoping against hope to find a survivor---the set and costumes are so lovely.

The characters personalities are blossoming. The costumes are equisite and the acting sublime. I love Lady Mae. She is as smooth as Mr. Selfridge. Bravo PBS for another quality production.
