If you love period pieces, you will love Regency House Party DVD. I watched Manor House and Colonial House on PBS, but missed this one. I am so glad that PBS makes their wonderful shows available on DVD. I had a wonderful weekend watching the episodes of Regency House. I found this time in history fascinating, and the DVD was lots of fun to watch.

This is a new spin on the shows that take modern people back in time. It was interesting to see what the producers would allow and how strict Regency rules would be enforced. My only beef was the "chaperons" either were not sufficiently instructed as to ensure their charges understood the behavioral rules of the times, or the young women did not understand. Too many times the women sat with legs crossed, scratched themselves in public, etc. Aside from that, it's really a lot of fun to watch. I learned a lot about what the gentlemen did with their leisure time. I'm excited to re-watch it.

Since I'm reader all things Jane Austin, this series really shows how courtship was for the upper classes in England in her day. I got lost in the descriptions of the social status of the women (according to their wealth) and was frustrated by how limited the women were in any kind of physical action with the men.
