Comments about PBS World at War: Collector's Edition DVD 11PK:
As a teenager growing up in the 1970s, I remember watching this series on network TV every week it was on. Of all the documentaries on the war, this one has got to be the best. It was not just a chronological regurgitation of the conflict, strife and hardship of the war, it presented the facts in a new, unique way.
This series left such an indelible mark on my young teenage memory, that for the past 30 years after it first aired, up to this day, I could still hum the opening theme music and see the burning credits as each episode started, even before the DVDs were released... And having Lord Laurence Olivier and his distinctive voice narrating the series was the benchmark for all future documentaries...
If you grow tired of just plain, repetitive chronologies of history and of World War II, this is the series to own...
Comments about PBS World at War: Collector's Edition DVD 11PK:
I have several compilations of DVD's regarding WWII.
"World @ War" is the absolute best of the bunch hands down. There are very few important strategic actions that this set does not cover. The war in North Africa, Sicily & Italy, the Pacific, the war in the West before and after D-Day, and Germany's attack (Barbarossa) on Russia, it even covers the Aleutian Islands for crying out load.
IF you buy this set you will never regret it.
