Don't know if it is just me, but I find "oldies" shows depressing. The entertainers have aged, some well, some not so well (of course I realize that I have too, but am still shocked by the reflection of the old woman in the mirror!), and they are not at the peak of their game.
For the length of time it took me to watch this DVD, I was transported back to their heyday, when we were all young and idealistic, and most of all, they were so very talented.
If I had the time, I would watch this over and over again. It's nice to know that I can...

The original PBS version of Rock and Roll was excellent. Wish they would release that version again. Would buy it in an instant! Saw it about 20 years ago, one New Years Eve. Thanks

If PBS ever offers the original series,I would buy it in a minute.I bought this DVD believing it to be the original broadcast and was not impress when compare to the excellent documentary that was shown on PBS. Support PBS,but skip this disc.

Unlike the previous reviewer, I wouldn't call this "garbage". I enjoyed this set. However, the previous reviewer is correct that this is NOT the same as the series "Rock and Roll" that PBS showed about 10 years ago, and that the "Rock and Roll" series was substantially better than this DVD set.

This series ("History of Rock & Roll") contains only short clips of each band. That allows the series to cover a larger number of bands, but with little depth. The "Rock and Roll" series was more thoughtful.

To me,rock and roll means 50s and 60s Not punk rock and hard rock.I found very little of this entertaining.
